This weekโs Top 5 Wednesday topic is our top five favorite title fonts on book covers. The design of a cover is extremely important because it is the first impression that a potential reader gets, and is what will inspire them to learn more about the actual novel itself. We may not entirely judge a book by its cover, but it definitely plays a significant role in the book selection process of all readers.
As both a reader and an artist, I have always enjoyed every aspect of a novel, from the cover to the layout to the actual text of the story. I will admit, covers are very important to me and I can get pretty picky when choosing what edition I want to buy. I also happen to be a huge typography nerd, so I love covers with unique and beautiful title fonts.
It was tough to chose, but here are a few of the books that I think have both distinctive and gorgeous title fonts!
- The Singular and Extraordinary Tale of Mirror and Goliath by Ishbelle Bee
- The Assassinโs Apprentice/Royal Assassin/Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb
- The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North
- Jackaby/Beastly Bones by William Ritter
What are your favorite book title fonts? Let me know in the comments!

The cover of Mirror and Goliath looks really cool and kind of steampunky. I loved Cinder as well (need to read the rest though!) ๐

It really does have a very steampunk feel to it; I absolutely love that! I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, but I am hoping that it has some steampunk elements in it ๐
Cinder is fantastic, isn’t it? I’m currently working my way through the series too! Can’t wait to see where it goes ๐

Great choices! ๐ I’m pretty sure most of the reason I want to even read Jackaby is because of how beautiful the cover design is, surely something that lovely must contain an equally lovely story.

Jackaby’s cover is fantastic, isn’t it? ๐ I don’t usually do this, but it was the main reason why I picked it up in the first place! I read it earlier this year and, while it’s probably not everyone’s cup of tea, I absolutely loved it. It’s a very fun and quirky read; sort of Doctor Who meets Sherlock Holmes.

It really is, kudos to the designer for sure. And it’s Doctor Who meets Sherlock Holmes you say? Well, I’m sold on it! ๐
